This scheme is aimed to support the UK's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to net-zero by 2050. Below are the general eligibility criteria for homeowners interested in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Please note, these criteria are subject to change, and you should check the most current information from official sources or government websites.

Property Eligibility

  • The property must be located in England or Wales.

  • It includes both domestic and small non-domestic properties.

  • New buildings are eligible only if they have a planning application submitted before a specific date set by the scheme.

System Eligibility:

  • The heating system being installed (air source heat pump, ground source heat pump, or biomass boiler) must meet certain technical and performance criteria specified by the scheme.

  • The system must be installed by a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified installer or equivalent.

Energy Efficiency:

Properties must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that is less than 10 years old, with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation (unless there are exemptions).

Ownership:

Applicants must own the property (freeholder or leaseholder), or be a self-builder. Landlords of both private and social rented properties are also eligible.
